Stop Putting It Off

We all know the nagging feeling of putting off something we need to do but don’t want to do.   Whether it’s scheduling an annual physical, getting a flu shot, or taking care of financial tasks such as renewing an insurance policy, setting up a savings plan, or turning on recurring giving, we often put off what we know we should do.

God’s Word encourages us to not put off doing the right thing but urgently take the first step towards obedience. James 4:17 tells us, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”

God knows what we need before we do, and the Holy Spirit leads us to walk according to God’s good plans for our lives. He helps us to be planful, to educate ourselves, to stop putting it off and to take the next step in wisdom.

Let’s remember this truth: “The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor.” Proverbs 21:5.

Taking the first step can turn the stress of putting it off into the peace of living in obedience.
