A strong foundation
Literacy is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty. Research shows that children in poverty who are able to read proficiently by the end of the third grade have an 89% graduation rate from high school.
Studies show that third grade is a crucial year for students because they must apply their reading skills in order to reason and deduce; without the ability to read, students have no hope of keeping up with their classmates and will fall further and further behind over the years.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them…”
MATTHEW 19:14a
