In 1906, it was birthed in prayer.

Through the years, prayer has undergirded its mission, guided its growth, and helped overcome its challenges.

During the annual meeting of the Louisiana Baptist Convention November 2024, messengers voted to establish a day of prayer for Louisiana Christian University to be held on the first Sunday of February. This year, that first Sunday will be February 1.

LCU is supported by the Louisiana Baptist Convention. Over 14% of Cooperative Program gifts support the budget of LCU. Trustees are elected by messengers annually from our churches. LCU is OUR university and she deserves our full support and certainly our dedicated praying.

Would you consider dedicating time in your morning worship service on February 1 to pray for the ministry of LCU? Specifically, pray for high school students from our churches to consider making LCU their college choice.

There are a number of ways you can participate in this emphasis including showing a video in your worship service. See more below.

However you choose to participate, may the Lord hear our heart’s cry for LCU to be a place that is built on faith and driven by excellence.

The Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force recently launched its newest material called “The Essentials.”]]> Essentials

The Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force (ARITF) recently launched its newest material called “The Essentials” at the 2024 Southern Baptist Convention in Indianapolis. Following two years of dedicated work this resource is now being made available to every Louisiana Baptist church.

5 Areas of Focus

The booklet material focuses on five essential areas: 1) Train, 2) Screen, 3) Protect, 4) Report and 5) Care. Each of these areas contain scripture passages, teaching material, supplements, forms and FAQs. In addition, when an individual enrolls he will receive the downloadable training videos.

The curriculum has been designed to help all churches of any size. Churches are encouraged to use the 5-5-5 method of implementation. The church should select 5 leaders who work with children, students and/or vulnerable adults, commit to go through the 5 essentials and to complete the work in 5 months.

SARC is committed to providing resources to help all of our Louisiana Baptist churches stay safe. However, churches must take the needed steps as well and use the free material that is available. So that each church can create their own polices and guidelines that protect all children, students and vulnerable adults from any abuse.

Louisiana Baptists continue to stand in unison and with purpose to help make all Louisiana Baptist churches safe for all ages. For that reason, we are providing a comprehensive resource for pastors, staff, and lay members.
 
It has been almost one year since a team was established to begin research for resourcing our churches about sexual abuse prevention. During this dedicated time, seven appointed members from the Louisiana Baptist staff met often and developed web pages filled with resources that churches of any size can access. These web pages give information and guidance to help prevent sexual abuse. The members of this team have since been established as the Sexual Abuse Response Council (SARC).

You’ll find links for: Biblical pursuit for righteousness, sexual abuse check list, protection methods for minors, how a church can respond to an allegation, confidential reporting agencies, and more. The resource pages are filled with additional tools and help.
 
No church should use the excuse that “we didn’t know where to get resources.” By utilizing these web pages, churches can gain as much information as needed to prepare, plan, train for, and prevent sexual abuse. Also provided are listings of professional counseling for victims and steps to report individuals who violate another person.
