Awakening in the Land of the Rising Sun
In Japan, statistics show that 99 percent of the population does not have a relationship with Christ. Those statistics represent people—living, breathing image-bearers of God whom Jesus Christ died to save. While the task of reaching them with the gospel seems daunting, God is stirring the church in Japan to reach the nation. Even now, churches and missionaries in Japan are praying and planning for gospel opportunities as the country opens its doors to host the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Tokyo and Southern Baptists Prepare for Olympics and Rugby World Cup
The world will converge on Tokyo, Japan, twice in the span of a year for two international sporting events, the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Olympics. Southern Baptists and their local church partners in Tokyo will be there to share the gospel with the players, coaches, and fans.
This summer, the world will fix their eyes on Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Millions from across the globe will flock to the world’s largest city to cheer on their countries’ best athletes, and IMB missionaries from across East Asia will be among them, planting gospel seeds and reaching people for Christ during this ultimate competition.
